Money-saving tips
- Buy what’s on sale.
- If you already have it in your pantry or fridge, duh, don’t buy it!
- Only buy the amount you need to make the recipe – i.e., if the recipe only calls for 2 lemons, only buy 2 single lemons, don’t buy the bag!
- The price difference between organic, non-organic, fresh and frozen options – organic/frozen can be the most cost effective (i.e., depending on brand/store, if it’s on sale or BOGO).

Chewy Blueberry Bone Broth Dog Treats
Blueberries for antioxidants, nutrient-dense bone broth, pumpkin for fiber and omegas from sardines - your dog will be begging for these baked biscuits. Simple, inexpensive ingredients, and hardly any effort to make (you just need an oven). These are the perfect dog treats for furry, finicky eaters!
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 350F. In a metal bowl, add your wet ingredients first (blueberries, pumpkin, sardines, and banana). Mix thoroughly. You'll want to mash the banana and blueberries, but it's OK to leave some small chunks.
-
Then add in the turmeric, black pepper, bone broth and oat flour, mixing until fully incorporated. The mixture will be more on the wetter side - it won't actually form a proper dough. If the mixture seems too wet, simply add more oat flour (start with a 1/4 cup of couple tablespoons).
-
For this recipe, I used silicone molds to bake these treats. If you are forgoing molds or using different sized molds, cooking time may vary. You'll want large marble sized dollops (~roughly 2/3 in diameter) spaced out on a baking sheet (using parchment paper). Bake for 45-55 minutes, depending on your oven, and cover the treats loosely with parchment paper after 30 minutes to prevent burning.
-
If you are using silicone molds, prep your molds on a baking sheet for easier transporting to and from the oven. Spoon in the mixture without overfilling (these treats will rise slightly in the oven). If you have any mixture leftover, you can place in the freezer for another use.
-
Bake for upwards of 45-55 minutes, depending on your oven, and after 30 minutes cover your molds with a sheet of parchment to prevent burning.
-
Remove the treats from the oven and allow to cool (without touching them) for 10-15 minutes. Gently remove the treats with a spatula or by pushing the silicone in order to pop out the treat.
-
Once completely cooled, transfer to airtight container.
These treats can sit out at room temperature for up to 4-5 days, or you may refrigerate them. You can even store in the freezer and take out what you need for the day (they thaw fairly quickly and are still perfectly chewy when thawed).
